Volunteers

Our volunteers work with students with special needs who are ranging in age from 5 to 20+ years old. Students are typically on the autism spectrum, although some have other disabilities. Each volunteer is responsible for 1 class (5 students)

Volunteer Requirements:

- Anyone who is in grade 9 or higher
- Onboarding: Complete the volunteer onboarding process (including the interview). 
- Time Commitment: Volunteers must be able to serve a minimum of 30 minutes each week. 
- Volunteers are responsible for preparing their materials for recreation, art, and culinary art. 
 

Onboarding Process:

  1. Fill out the volunteer sign-up form below. 

  2. Schedule for a virtual interview - The actual interview will take 15 minutes. Please feel free to ask any questions to our team. 

  3. You will receive a follow-up email detailing your status (Accept / Waitlist / Decline)

  4. You will need to complete 2 weeks of training before starting your volunteer work. The training includes participating in a total of 2 classes. 

  5. After 2 weeks of training, the student will be assigned to a class or classes. 

Class Rules for Volunteers

  • Every volunteer is needed. If you are absent more than 5 times a year, you will be withdrawn from the program. If you are going to be absent, you must notify AAO by emailing aao.program2020@gmail.com

  • Be on time

  • Dress appropriately

  • Must not leave the meet unless it is an emergency

  • Follow leaders' instructions

  • No phone calls or texting during classes (unless it is an emergency)

  • If you encounter an emergency, you should immediately contact your leader. 

  • If you are found not complying with your responsibilities and presenting inappropriate behaviors, you will immediately be removed from the program. 

  • Art and Culinary Art Volunteers: You must make the art pieces prior to the classes to learn the making processes before and to show the products to the students as an example. 

  • Volunteers should ask the students for the photos of the artworks to be sent to aao.program2020@gmail.com at the end of every class. 

  • Each volunteer will get 30 minutes of volunteering hours in every class they attend (If the volunteer participates in 1 class every week, he/she will get a total of 43 hours a year).

  • When a student applies to be a volunteer, he/she can’t withdraw from the program until one semester. If this happens, he/she won’t get the hours they have been working.

  • *If volunteers want to earn more volunteering hours, he/she can participate in weekly classes as well.
